Biographische Angaben

A graduate of Trent University (’84) and former member of Peter Robinson College, Jim Daschuk has an Master of Arts and Doctoral degree in Canadian History from the University of Manitoba. His research experience includes the fields of medicine, climate change and population health. He is currently a researcher with the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU) and is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina. His book, Clearing the Plains: Disease, Politics of Starvation and the Loss of Aboriginal Life, published by the University of Regina Press (2013) won five Saskatchewan Book awards and three prizes from the Canadian Historical Association, including the Sir John A. Macdonald Prize for best scholarly book in Canadian history and was be awarded the Governor General Award for Scholarly Achievement at the Annual Governor General History Awards in November 2014. In 2009, "A Dry Oasis: The Northern Great Plains in Late Prehistory," in Prairie Forum 34 (Spring 2009) was published, and James has also co-authored "Treaties and Tuberculosis: First Nations People in Late 19th Century Western Canada, A Political and Economic Transformation." Bestandsgeschichte

The collection was donated by the course instructor. The students were aware that their projects would be deposited in the Archives.

Eingrenzung und Inhalt

The records in this collection include personal journals and newspaper clippings. This collection consists of 26 centimetres of textual records, 1 photograph, 1 Compact Disk. The projects were all undertaken in 2009. All plastic bindings were removed from the course projects, preservation copies were made of the newspaper clippings, the photograph was sleeved and the compact disk was printed out. Student numbers, where present, were omitted.

      This collection is restricted until 31 December 2014. During that time access will be granted at the discretion of the University Archivist.

      A donation agreement with Dr. Daschuk is dated 4 January 2010. Students participating in the project signed release forms agreeing to deposit there journals in the Archives.
