Custodial history
These papers were in the custody of Patrick Lane until their transferral to the Archives and Special Collections in 2010.
Scope and content
A considerable amount of the collection is Correspondence by email, the collection is organized into various series, the major series are: Awards, Correspondence, Permission, Personal, Professional Activities - Teaching, Professional Associations, Publications Featuring Patrick Lane, Writing by Others, and Writing by Patrick Lane. Patrick Lane also conducted a number of online poetry courses in which participants corresponded through e-mail. This correspondence has been grouped by course, and original order has been maintained. In one instance Patrick Lane had previously organized the correspondence from an online course into folders by participant. This ordering was maintained
in these records and may be found in files 287 to file 294. This collection also contains correspondence and drafts related to Lane’s novel Red Dog Red Dog. Also contained within this collection are 1 Artifact, 2 Video Tapes (VHS format), 2 Audio Tapes, 7 Compact Disks, 8 Oversize Items, 113 Photographs and 5 Ink Jet prints. As there was no filing system for the textual records at time of donation, one was created by Archives staff (except for the series for
online correspondence by participant) which remains in the original order. Preservation photocopying was required and carried out on newspaper clippings and the two oversize birthday books, the loose photographs were numbered and sleeved, the photographs used in the Personal series are numbered on the preservation photocopies.
