    Biographische Angaben

    Paul Gingrich was born on March 7, 1942 in Chatham, Ontario. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Western Ontario in 1964 and a Masters of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto in 1966. From 1966 to 1971 he attended the University of Michigan, studying in the Department of Economics.

    Paul’s first teaching experience was as a summer instructor at Frontier College in 1964. From 1966 to 1969 he was a research assistant in the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan and in 1967 was a summer research assistant at The Population Council in New York City. He taught Economics as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Michigan and as a sessional instructor at Henry Ford Community College from 1969 to 1971. In 1971-72 he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later in 1972 he joined the Department of Sociology and Social Studies at the University of Regina, attaining the rank of Professor in 1992, and retiring in 2007.

    Paul taught many sociology courses at the University of Regina. His papers and research focus on multiculturalism and the understanding of it, refugees, immigration and integration, and people and community in rural Saskatchewan. He has also explored population and labour force issues, such as incomes of young people and families.

    Paul’s administrative work includes membership in the University of Regina Executive Council and the Research Ethics Board. He served as Chair of the University of Regina Faculty Association and Chair of the Association’s Grievance Committee as well as being a member of the Executive and Internal Management Committees of the Association. For the Department of Sociology and Social Studies Paul was a member of thirteen Honours committees and thirty Graduate committees, and was external examiner for five Master of Arts oral examinations. He was a member of the Department’s Student Research Fund and has been responsible for Library ordering. In the Regina community Paul was a member of the board of the Regina Open Door Society and has been a contributor to the media on social and economic issues.
    He was a member of the Prairie Metropolis Centre. He authored or co-authored numerous papers and articles. His membership in Professional Organizations include the Canadian Population Society and the Canadian Sociological Association. He has given many public talks on population and economics. Paul is now Professor Emeritus of the University of Regina.
